Is Cdx Wood Treated
Some mistakenly think the x stands for exterior which is not true exactly.
Is cdx wood treated. Rain snow or even the sun can actually decimate plywood in only a couple of months. That is c and d describe the two sides of the plywood sheet. On the other end of the spectrum when the plywood has a d grade it means that it has many knotholes and isn t of very good quality. The wood is extremely durable which makes it an ideal material to be used in a roofing base.
What is cdx treated plywood. The wood gets a grade on a scale of a to d which correlates to its treatment and appearance. As mentioned above the x in cdx stands for exposure. The letter x the letter x in cdx refers to the type of glue used in the factory to bond the plywood veneers.
Cdx plywood is commonly used in the construction industry for the foundation and roofing of buildings. Cdx does not automatically mean pressure treated be careful not to confuse the words outdoor exterior and pressure treated to all mean the same thing. This means that the plywood allows being exposed to moisture but just for a limited period of time a prolonged exposure will lead to water damage. So one side of the plywood is c rated and the other side is d rated.
But there is an exception to pressure treated cdx. The letter x stands for exposure which means the plywood is tough enough to withstand a little moisture but for only a short time. Climate is difficult for any type of wood but it s particularly hard on the sensitive wood veneers in a sheet of plywood. Herein the letters c and d denote the quality of the surfaces both front and back.
It cannot stand prolonged periods of exposure to water so it must be covered by another material. They can withstand extreme moisture without getting water damaged. The term cdx is basically not the name of the plywood grade but the abbreviation of c d exposure 1 plywood. It does have some downsides though.
And that is excluding all the harm from insects and parasites. When plywood gets an a grade it means the wood has no knotholes and is visually perfect.
